Developmental Disability Issues

A developmental disability means a disability that appears when you are a kid, and lasts your whole life. The term often, but not always, implies a disability that is not physical. I'm mainly writing about autism spectrum disorders, and some about intellectual disabilities.

I usually tell people I have Asperger's, but here is a more detailed explanation: Explanation.

Here is a statement of my beliefs and opinions about developmental disabilities: Statement.

This is basically just a bunch of writing and YouTube videos about living with whatever-I-have, and how people with developmental disabilities are perceived, and stuff like that. Some of the videos are very focused and some are not particularly focused but I happened to talk about disability issues. Because I'm not an extremely coherent speaker, and for accessibility reasons, I've transcribed some of my videos.

I'm not at all interested in pretending to be more impaired than I am. I don't enjoy it when people accuse me of being less impaired than I say I am, either. Pretty much every video was recorded with multiple false starts and I often practiced what I was going to say before I started. (The "Asperger's and HFA Characters" videos are an exception, and I think it is obvious that this is the case.) I'm not saying that only ASD people have trouble making this kind of video, but just that the way I talk in my videos should not be taken as the way I talk in real life.
